Objet Geometries Ltd., a pioneer in photopolymer jetting, develops, manufactures and globally markets ultra-thin-layer, high-resolution 3-Dimensional printing systems and materials. Objet systems are used for rapid prototyping by world leaders in many industries, such as automotive, electronics, toy, consumer goods, and footwear across the globe in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Japan.

The challenge
The Objet solution is a complicated system comprised of 4 different applications including remote clients. The 3-dimensional intricacy of the prototypes they produce complicates the process even further. As a result, the testing team continuously faces the challenge of ensuring reliability and quality for their customers. In order to improve the testing process and increase the efficiency, Objet decided to incorporate automation testing. Object first attempt to implement an automated testing solution failed due to the inability of the package to work with Objet’s proprietary user interface ribbon. In addition, the high cost of hiring dedicated automation experts made the entire project non cost effective. Objet now sought alternative approaches to test automation that will suit their specific needs

The Solution
QualiTest began the process with a 1 week proof of concept. During this period, QualiTest experts translated select manual tests from each module in Objet’s system into KDT scripts. Upon successfully completing this phase, the full project was approved. In order to automate the testing of Objet’s proprietary ribbon user interface, a short integration process was required. Objet software engineers assigned and exposed unique IDs for each object and QualiTest experts were then able to incorporate them into the Automation Planner framework. Once the automation framework was adapted, the project focus shifted to training and knowledge transfer. QualiTest experts worked closely with the entire testing team at Objet, none of which had any coding experience or knowledge, to ensure that they became proficient in creating and executing the tests on their own.

Result
In just 3 months, QualiTest delivered a solution based on the Automation Planner Suite, a Keyword Driven Testing Framework, which makes the creation of automated test cases easy. It allows every tester to plan, design and execute test automation scripts improving process efficiency, reducing cost and ensuring the project’s success. Automation testing now replaces 50% of the cases that were previously done as manual testing on both formal and patch version releases.
