[Fairfield Connecticut, May 16, 2017] – 88% of App Users Will Abandon Apps Based on Bugs and Glitches. This, according to a survey conducted by QualiTest Group, the world’s largest pure play QA and independent software testing company.
The survey, conducted in April 2017, was jointly carried out with Google Consumer Surveys based on a representative sample of more than 1,000 respondents from the United States between the ages of 18 and 54.
When asked how many bugs or glitches they would have to experience to abandon an app completely, across all age ranges and genders only 12% of respondents answered that they would not abandon an app based on bugs. From the 88% of respondents that would abandon, 51% of them indicated that they would abandon an app completely if they experienced one or more bugs per day. The group most willing to abandon an app completely, men between the ages of 25 and 44, indicated that 63% of them would completely abandon an app if they experienced a few glitches each month.
Not all users will abandon an app completely based on bugs and glitches, yet 37% of all respondents indicated that they were likely or extremely likely to stop using an app the moment they experience a bug. Respondents between the ages of 35 and 54 were more likely to stop using an app the moment they experience a bug than respondents ages 18 to 34.
Bugs don’t go unnoticed. 78% of users notice glitches and bugs in the apps that they use, and 29% notice glitches and bugs one or more times per week. Respondents between the ages of 25 and 44 were more likely to notice bugs in their apps than both younger and older users.
“The results of our survey clearly show that app users notice bugs in their apps and are willing to stop using an app or abandon it completely based on those bugs that interfere with their user experience,” said Ami Sterling, CMO of QualiTest. “In today’s competitive landscape, with thousands of new apps released each month, the survey’s results show that quality is a key differentiator in determining an app’s success. Companies’ business outcomes go hand in hand with the number of bugs discovered in production. Apps that take Quality Assurance seriously are poised to gain, retain, and profit from users by making things run more smoothly.”
